Redpill Linpro Nordic Cloud – a secure cloud with a focus on personalised service
In addition to our consulting services, we proudly offer cloud solutions. Based in Oslo, our CloudOps department is, among others, dedicated to the development and management of our cloud service: Redpill Linpro Nordic Cloud (RLNC).
Recently, I had the pleasure of speaking with Yngve Sandal, who is celebrating his 25th anniversary at Redpill Linpro. Throughout his career, Yngve has held various roles and currently serves as a Cloud Architect, specialising in pre-sales for RLNC. Our conversation provided valuable insights into what sets RLNC apart and its significance within Redpill Linpro's operations.
Hello Yngve! Could you start by telling us a bit about yourself?
Certainly! I've been with Redpill Linpro since 2000. My career began as a system consultant, working mostly with operations but also some programming. After a few years I started working with our training department, handling both teaching and day-to-day operations.
Since 2018, I've been part of the CloudOps team as a Cloud Architect. My current focus is on pre-sales—meeting clients, understanding their needs, and explaining how our services can meet those needs. I also assist clients with their transition to the cloud.
What is RLNC?
RLNC (Redpill Linpro Nordic Cloud) is our own cloud service. In simple terms, “the cloud” lets you run applications and store data on remote servers instead of locally on your own device.
Traditionally, companies kept their own servers in-house. Over time, many have moved toward larger data centers or public cloud services.
Our journey began with a server room in a basement, eventually evolving into a full-fledged data center. Our specialty lies in offering solutions that simplify the process for our clients, allowing them to use our services without needing to manage the technical aspects themselves, as Yngve explains.
What distinguishes RLNC from other cloud services?
Our smaller size allows us to provide personalised service to our clients. While well-known cloud services like Amazon and Google, both based in the United States, are generally considered safe, Europe and the EU have even more stringent data protection laws. These regulations ensure that we never have to disclose the data stored in the cloud. Since CloudOps and RLNC are based in Oslo, all data is stored on Norwegian soil, and we are not part of the EU. This positioning allows us to implement even stronger and more adaptable rules regarding data storage and privacy than those in the EU.
Additionally, we offer a flexible subscription model tailored to our clients' needs. Our clients value the direct contact they have with our team, enabling us to customise our services to meet their specific requirements. Some clients utilise only our services, while others opt for surveillance and operational support. We also have clients who subscribe to an entire team that works onsite with their infrastructure team. This personalised approach is a significant advantage over larger providers, where clients often remain anonymous.
While we may not compete with the larger players on price, we provide added value through enhanced security and personalised service.
What does the team structure look like?
CloudOps is composed of over 30 dedicated professionals who specialise in developing, operating, and supporting our clients with RLNC. Our organisation is divided into several CloudOps teams, each consisting of 5-7 members. When a new client joins us, they are assigned a specific team that serves as their primary point of contact. This team effectively integrates with the client, functioning almost like an extension of their internal IT department.
Lastly, why is the Redpill Linpro Nordic Cloud crucial to Redpill Linpro's operations?
The Redpill Linpro Nordic Cloud enables us to provide cloud solutions that are specifically tailored to local needs while ensuring compliance with European laws and data sovereignty. RLNC upholds the core principles of openness, flexibility, and security, which are fundamental to Redpill Linpro's mission.
