Events build team spirit – and muscles
"I enjoy a classic after work, but doing something active together is nice - it brings us together as a team".
Creating a top workplace is a constant progress, and doing fun stuff together is an essential ingredient. We are humans, not work robots, and when we do anything but work together, we get closer as a team.
Traditional workplace events usually involve grabbing a bite to eat and having a drink after office hours – a classic “after work”. At Redpill Linpro, we also have our fair share of AWs, but we mix it up with game nights, theme events and active activities. During the spring of 2024, we ran especially many races together. Coworkers at the offices in Stockholm, Karlstad, Gothenburg, and Oslo all teamed up locally and got running.
– The atmosphere in our team was great; we had the same Redpill Linpro t-shirts on, and everyone was very motivated. Some had big ambitions to break records, while others were there to have fun, says Sigrid Kristine Bungum, marketing coordinator at Redpill Linpro.
She works with marketing and events for all the Redpill Linpro offices and is situated in Oslo. In May, she and 14 coworkers ran Holmenkollstafetten, a well-known race in Norway. The race is 18 kilometres split into 15 separate distances, and the race course covers a large part of Oslo.
– It was really fun to run. Many people were watching and cheering, no matter if you were on the same team or not. I ran one of the first distances and stayed with some of my teammates at the stadium to cheer and watch our and other teams cross the finish line.
Holmenkollstafetten is a classic race that was first arranged in 1923. Redpill Linpro has been participating since 2011, and the interest among coworkers is high. Sigrid both ran the race and arranged the company participation.
– It went really quick to gather a whole team, which is great. We even had a few colleagues on a waiting list who joined the team at the last minute due to some sick leaves.
Over in Sweden, developer Staffan Solin from the Stockholm office also ran together with 12 of his coworkers. They ran Midnattsloppet, the midnight run, through Stockholm on a warm summer night.
– It was a tough race for me, I had to force my way through it. As usual, I hadn’t trained enough, haha. But the race itself was great; many people were cheering, and it was a nice course across Stockholm city, Staffan says.
Staffan actually participated in two races with his coworkers, though one wasn’t arranged by the company but by the coworkers themselves. Staffan and six colleagues from the Stockholm office completed the obstacle race Toughest.
– I enjoy a classic after work, but doing something active together is nice. It brings us together as a team, and it is great motivation to have a race to train for.
Both Staffan and Sigrid already have their eyes set on next year’s run, and the ambition is optimistic.
– I’m going to pick a faster start group. And train more, Staffan says.
– I think I might have found my favourite leg of the relay, and next time I participate, I know I can run it even faster, Sigrid says.
