Priya takes the active path to the work-life balance
As a developer, you naturally spend quite some time sitting at the desk, typing away on the keyboard and creating brilliant stuff and smart solutions. Priya is one of many in the Redpill Linpro Family who likes to stay active to complement the stationary way of work.
– I started practicing slowly few yoga asanas and noticed that I am becoming stronger and more flexible. It gave me a lot of positive energy. I felt empowered, like, I can do this; I can try new things, Priya Avanoorkar says.
Priya is an integration developer at Redpill Linpro, and for two years she has enjoyed starting her days with a few minutes of yoga.
– Just sitting in the chair all day makes me feel lethargic, she says with a smile.
Priya Avanoorkar works at the Stockholm office and focuses mainly on Mulesoft. However, due to her interest of competence development, she is currently learning Python. The positive energy from morning yoga brightens her whole day, sometimes during challenging, learning sessions.
Even though Priya has her roots in India, the homeland of yoga, it was actually after moving to Sweden that she started her yoga routine. To her, exercising has positive mental and physical effects, organizing day and affecting her work life as well.
– Exercising helps me understand my feelings. I can relax more easily. When I haven't been active, I am more easily overwhelmed by things. I feel really good when I have been active, and my biggest health goal is to keep that positive energy.
After a workday, Priya likes to get active for an hour or two. The activity varies; it can be a brisk walk, some badminton or a lengthy swim. She also enjoys the work-related activities – even if they're not very sporty.
– I have attended some of them, and it has been a really good experience for me. I want to expose myself to the Swedish culture and language, I really want to learn. It's sometimes challenging, but I am trying to speak Swedish as much as possible.
If someone were moving to Sweden and the Nordic countries, how would you describe the culture to them?
– I would say it's really warm and welcoming whenever someone is new. You feel like one in the team. When I was new here, the welcoming made me feel like, "Okay, I should stay here for a long time". It can be one of the greatest feelings, Priya says.
What do you think about the future at Redpill Linpro?
– I want to stay here. I don't think too far into the future; I like to be in the present – and right now, I really enjoy my present.
