At Redpill Linpro, we strive for digital transformation in almost everything we do, and much of it are directly related to creating a better society. In one of our latest initiatives, Redpill Linpro Karlstad developed the technology for a smart bench. The purpose of the project is to create a safe and attractive space for socializing, while also installing sound technology and personal alarms. This is a result of our commitment to technology, enhancing safety, and improving the quality of life in urban environments.

The project is created in cooperation with Smart & Safe, whose aim is to increase the perceived safety of children and young people in public spaces. The technology behind the project is developed by some driven and creative employees of Redpill Linpro. By combining their expertise in programming and integration, and utilizing Internet of Things (IoT) solutions, they leveraged modern technology to create smart and efficient solutions in public environments.

By identifying the needs of children and young people in the community, three points were established to enhance safety in the area: a safe place for socializing, personal alarms, and sound technology.

Safe place for socializing

The bench is interactive, and by saying 'Hello Bench,' people can charge their phones, connect to free Wi-Fi, and much more.

 - Although it is only a test right now, the bench responds to an average of more than 100 questions per month, says Johan Lundin, regional manager for Redpill Linpro in Karlstad.

This also creates a space where young people can meet and hang out with friends.

Personal Alarm

Another part of the project includes the development of a portable alarm that is integrated with the city's street lighting. By pressing a button on a discreet hair tie, an SMS with the GPS location is sent to a pre-selected recipient, such as family members, friends, or SOS Alarm. This personal alarm was originally developed by the youth company Safestyle and further enhanced by Smart & Safe. Today, the alarm is integrated with the city's street lighting. When the alarm is activated, the lights in the area turn on. This serves both as a signal for help and as a deterrent to potential offenders.

Sound Technology

Through advanced sound technology that emits high-frequency sounds only perceivable by individuals under 25 years old, these youths and young adults receive an audio signal about potentially dangerous locations. At the same time, a warning is sent to the project's IoT platform, enabling a quick response in case of any hazardous situations. The sound technology is installed in high-risk areas, such as elevated heights, which may pose a danger to young people.

Redpill Linpro always strives to give our employees the freedom and resources to develop. Throughout the project, the team has had the opportunity to learn new technologies and collaborate with other actors, which has provided us with a broader perspective through new experiences and skills development.
