IT Talks: FOSDEM - a summary
Two of Redpill Linpro’s core values are to always learn new things and share competence with others. And what is a better way of doing this than visiting the biggest Open Source event in Europe and then sharing the experience? Imagine going abroad, meeting colleagues from other offices, and getting inspired by hundreds of speakers who all share the same interests: technology and open source!
Recently, a bunch of Redpill Linproers went to Brussels to dive deep into the world of technical innovation at FOSDEM – one of the most significant conferences within open source. FOSDEM is known for its unique agenda with hundreds of participants from all over the world. It offers a wide spectrum of presentations, discussions, and networking opportunities.
Billy Beltran is strongly passionate about Open Source and is working to encourage the use of open source at his client assignments and internally in the company. He truly enjoyed the possibility of networking and meeting people from all over the world with different technical backgrounds.
- FOSDEM is extremely rewarding. Everything is there! There are technical resources, not just presentations but real technical discussions. You can meet the people who build things you use and approach the person who writes a large part of the code. Meaning you get access to a deep knowledge base. There are people from all over the world. I think everyone can gain something by going, says Billy.
Robert Linhem, a senior integrations specialist visited FOSDEM for his first time and was fascinated by the enormous width of presentations and topics the conference offers.
- If you are interested in IT, you can easily find an interesting topic. There were plenty of both super in-depth technical topics such as algorithms on how we handle memory allocation in C or Rust, to introductions to any subject. With such a width of different topics, there are no difficulties in finding subjects to dive into, says Robert.
Regardless of your technical level or job role, the conference is relevant for everyone. IT and open source is exciting and dynamic and a conference like FOSDEM is a good way to drive innovation forward. I strongly encourage you to listen to this episode of IT Talks to gain a deeper understanding of the significance it has and its role in promoting the development of open source technology worldwide.
